Making a Class Word Wall
Ask students to choose three words
from today's class. Give them a blank piece of paper.
Ask them to fold it into three and write each word in
one of the three sections. For homework, ask students
to cut the paper where they have folded it. They will
have three word cards. On the back of each word card,
students should illustrate the word.
The next day, ask students to place their word cards
all around the poster. Organize the cards by placing
the letters of the alphabet on the wall near the poster.
Place each word card in a column under the corresponding
alphabet letter.
Alternatively, you can put the word cards around the
poster like a big word collage with the poster in the
middle. Now you can use this poster word collage every
single day of class. As you begin each class, you can
do a quick two-minute warm up by having a different
student come to the poster and point to five items.
Their classmates shout out the names. Just point, say,
and succeed!
Home-School Activities
Student-written letters to parents
at home are important! The easiest way to reach out
to the home is to have students write letters home that
contain their own personal word lists. You can create
stationery by using one of the mascots. Click here for
hints for student letter-writing.
I hope that you will find these activities useful as
you use your New Parade posters to create
a print-rich classroom! You can be sure that with
your New Parade posters you have yet another
teaching resource that will allow you to involve all
your students in activities that best focus on, develop
and improve positive attitudes, learning procedures
and learning strategies.
We believe that New Parade's poster packs are
just another reason why New Parade is an example
of a solid pedagogy to teaching children English. Try
them and let us know what you think. Write to us at
newparade@pearsoned.com
- send us your questions, comments, suggestions or examples
of how you are using the poster packs with your students.
You can count on us writing you back!
