Motivation is central
to the classroom experience. But what does it mean exactly?
How do we facilitate it? This presentation will explore the
notion of motivation and examine its links to emotional experience.
Following this thread, the presentation will explore ways in
which we can begin to engage students at an emotional level
as well as encourage participants to ponder on the relevance
of elements such as the quality of the teacher-student relationship
and ‘classroom atmosphere’ in helping to facilitate
motivation and engagement.

Trying to motivate a classroom of primary or secondary students
can often be a daunting task. This presentation will begin
by offering some general principles of motivation theory,
including a consideration of elements such as the teacher-student
relationship and the importance of cultivating a conducive
‘classroom atmosphere’. It will then go on to
offer a series of practical activities that teachers can use
to help raise motivation levels in their classrooms.
