I am using Windows Vista, and I get an error message when I try to install or run the software.
Please try running the dictionary in XP compatibility mode. To do this, right click the Longman Dictionary of American English desktop shortcut and select 'properties' then the 'compatibility' tab and choose 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)' from the dropdown list. Tick the 'Run as administrator' checkbox at the bottom.
LDAE doesn't start, or the sound and video don't work
If you have installed Quicktime 7 and LDAE doesn’t start or the sound and video don’t work, please download the following:
Download the following patch: ldae.jar and save it to your desktop.
Open the folder where the LDAE CD-ROM is installed i.e.
c:\program files\longman\ldae
Open the chrome directory, and scroll down to the ldae.jar file.
Rename ldae.jar to ldae-old.jar to keep the original version.
Copy the new downloaded ldae.jar from your desktop into:
c:\program files\longman\ldae\chrome
Download the following zip file – plugins.zip.
Open the folder where the LDAE CD-ROM is installed i.e.
c:\program files\longman\ldae\plugins,
Create a new folder called: ‘old’
Copy the following files in the ‘old’ folder.
npnul32.dll
npqtplugin2.dll
npqtplugin3.dll
npqtplugin4.dll
npqtplugin5.dll
npqtplugin6.dll
npqtplugin.dll
QuickTimePlugin.class
Extract/unzip the plugins.zip file and copy the files to:
C:\Program Files\Longman\Ldae\plugins
LDAE audio and video should now work OK.

Open the chrome directory, and scroll down to the ldae.jar file..
Rename ldae.jar to ldae-old.jar to keep the original version.
Drag and drop the new ldae.jar from your desktop into the Finder window.
You can now restart LDAE, the sound should play correctly.
