Listening and Speaking integrates listening and speaking strategies, skills, and activities. Before You Listen offers students opportunities to predict and apply prior knowledge. Listening and speaking strategies allow students to listen and speak more effectively and independently. Pronunciation offers students practice in perceiving and producing English phonology. Speak Out helps students develop fluency through discussions about personal experiences.

Reading and Writing contains high-interest readings on the unit topic. Before You Read activates students’ prior knowledge about the topic. Reading strategies enable students to read more effectively and independently. Comprehension questions and vocabulary activities check students’ understanding of the reading content and key vocabulary. Write focuses on specific writing forms and tasks, such as the paragraph, topic sentence, and supporting sentences.

Write About It allows students to write for a real audience–their peers. Check Your Writing offers students opportunities to practice revision and peer feedback.

A Unit Review appears after every three units. It checks students’ understanding of the units’ grammar concepts and key vocabulary.
